Leader Spotlight – Laura
In this series of mini-blogs we want to introduce you to some of the faces you’ll be seeing delivering sessions and leading runs across BRW – these guys volunteer their time on a weekly basis to lead groups and help others enjoy running! Without them the entire weekend (and probably running in Sheffield) would be on its knees!
Today it’s the turn of Laura, APC coach and strength aficionado!
When and why did you start running?
I ran on the track as a kid, but stopped when I got to that awkward age of being super self conscious! I took it up again when I came to Sheffield to university as a way to balance out the cider :D since then running has just become such a huge part of my life I can’t imagine not doing it!
What groups do you lead/get involved with?
I teach three strength classes a week, lead an early morning ATR run in Rivelin on a Thursday morning, and coach Accelerate Your Speed with Stuart on a Thursday evening. I’m an occasional face at Wood Run too.
What was your favourite thing about Big Running Weekend last year?
I (along with Stuart) delivered the Trail School sessions and I enjoyed every minute of it! I also got to take part in a couple of Wood Run sessions and listen to the speakers in the evening who were brilliant! Oh and the pizza :D
What do you do when you aren’t running?
Erm, most things I do revolve around running in some form or other :) currently a lot of my time is being spent finalising details for BRW and getting things in place for the Dig Deep events in September. Away from running I go climbing and orienteering with my daughter, binge read sci-fi books and crochet blankets!
Do you like to do any events/races? If so, what have you got planned this year? If racing isn’t your thing what inspires you to run?
I’m not really a big racer, I tend to hype myself up and get too nervous to enjoy it. I love to run for the freedom of it, as well as the silence (if you’ve met my child you’ll understand my need for silence!)
I do enter the odd event now and then, and even unexpectedly won the Ladybower 50 a couple of years ago!
