Coaching Workshops and More.

One of the great things about the BIG Running Weekend is that there is something for everyone.  There are also Workshops and Coaching Workshops that you can attend even if at the time your running, for whatever reason, is a little limited.  All of the coached session welcome observers as well as those joining in with the practical aspects.

So where to start and what to do?  That’s a good question so here’s a look at a mix of Informative Coached Sessions and Workshops that will provide more than just a run around the Woods.

You can see the full list of Talks and Workshops Here

For a full list of all the Coached Sessions then please take a look Here

For those looking to develop different aspect of their training should take a look at two New Coaching Workshops that Accelerate Performance Centre Coach Stuart Hale is running.

Saturday 19th, 9:00am. Coached Session: Developing Hill Strength with Intervals

Sunday 20th, 9:00am – Running Workshop: Developing Your Speed

Let’s be honest, most runners think that both hill reps and speed intervals should be run as fast as they can for the given distance or time.  This is one myth we will definitely be busting. Another is that these type of session don’t have to be completed at your local track. Trails and roads can work just as well.
Both of these follow a similar format. A short session of actual running, tailored to both fitness and current ability / experience.  They will tie in the reasons behind the need for sessions such as these and also the best way way of going about introducing them into your training and how to develop them.  They can both be fun, yet leave you feeling a little tired yet also energised and ready for the next session.

Coaching Workshops and More.

This year you may have noticed there is a real theme around your ‘head’ and running.
There are two excellent Workshops taking place in the Sycamore Suite that should help you to focus on the important aspects of both your training and racing.

Saturday 19th, 2:00pm- Sycamore SuiteDealing with Race Day Anxiety
This workshop could just be the talking point of the weekend. Karen is highly trained and experienced when it comes to the process and steps we can take to dealing with race day anxiety and nerves.  We know, we have sat through this Workshop and thought this is excellent. So here it is and it comes highly recommended.
Places are limited for this one, so please book early.

Sunday 20th, 10:30am- Sycamore Suite. Goal setting, Training and Race Planning.
So why are training this way? What is it you want to achieve? Working out your key training objectives can sometimes be pretty daunting – will they meet the requirements of the event you would like to enter and is there enough time?  Plus what if you have to move the goal posts because of the unexpected?
It’s a process. The coaches leading this workshop will explain this and more.  It’s all pretty straightforward really.

Sunday 20th, 12:00pm- Sycamore Suite. Fitness for Running An Ultra or Multi Day Event.
Lead coach, Stuart Hale, will be in the hot seat as he takes you through the considerations in running a long way. The type of training, the intensity and the duration. The importance of recovery and not overdoing things. Time scales are also really important (which links nicely with the Goal Setting Workshop before hand) as it is a good idea to have the basics of training in place before you begin the real hard work.
Stuart has worked with adventure racers (multi day), ultra runners and those taking on extreme events like the MDS.
