Coached Sessions
For the Big Running Weekend, the Accelerate Community team of coaches will be delivering a series of sessions looking at many different aspects of running technique and movement. These will include Running Technique, Running Strength and Stability, plus junior coaching and a family inclusive session or two. Then there’s Running with Poles and a session designed to show you how you can develop speed. The sessions will be open to all, with many ideal for those new to joining a coached session, plus those for the more experienced, no matter your pace or fitness level.
Oh yes, you can guarantee plenty of fun on these sessions too.

Saturday 19th, 9:00am. Coached Session: Developing Hill Strength with Intervals
A practical session that will look at how we use hill intervals to develop our running. They can help with strength and also develop speed if used in the right way. How fast we should run our intervals, the recovery and the type of hill will all be looked at and discussed. Yes expect some uphill running. That said we are not looking to leave you exhausted and will work to your ability.
Saturday 19th, 9:30am. Coached Session: Running with Poles.
A multi terrain session that will give the opportunity to either fine tune your technique of using poles, or to try them and see if they are for you. Ultra runners have known their benefits for years and using them correctly can make so much difference.
Saturday 19th, 10:30am – Mental Health-Running for Headspace
Many of us live lives filled with stresses and worries that take their toll on our mental health. Exercise has repeatedly been shown to be helpful at reducing these effects, so come for a run and a chat, where we will explore how and why running can be part of your wellness routine and help you enjoy life with a little less stress!
Saturday 19th, 11:30am – Coached Session with WoodRun: Developing Running Technique- part 1
This session is ideal for adults and juniors alike. How can we improve our running technique and then keep the progress going? This fundamental workshop will cover the key aspects of good running technique and use running drills to help cement the movement pattern.
Saturday 19th, 12:00pm – Running for Fitness Past 50
Join some of the regulars from Accelerate’s Running Past 50 group. As you may have gathered from the name it is primarily aimed at those over 50s who are either new to running or returning to running. Your coaches will take you through some of the key essentials that can help our movement and running technique as we get older. So expect plenty of mobility work, running technique and finishing with a short, paced, session.
Saturday 19th, 12:30pm- Coached Session: Fine Tuning your Running Technique
So you are running well and technique is pretty good. So how can we further fine tune the way we run? A practical session that will look at the finer points of movement and how we can can develop these to aid our running further.
Saturday 19th, 1:00pm – WoodRun Games: Developing junior through fun
Another of those sessions that always proves popular for the whole family. From technique through to relay races and of course a chance to jump over a few hurdles (low ones). The whole session is geared towards family fun whilst learning and exercising.
All movements are appropriate to age and help to develop good movement and speedy kids!
Saturday 19th, 1:30pm. Coached Session: Up Hill Technique.
Expect a hill, expect to run at a range of efforts and expect intervals and to have fun! This graded session will be ideal for anyone new to hill reps and for those who are more experienced. There will also be some technique and pacing advice thrown in as well. Distance covered will not be much more then 5kms (unless you are super fit and would like a more challenging session). Oh yes – we can do that too!
Sunday 20th, 9:00am – Running Workshop: Developing Your Speed
Reps and intervals may sound like they belong in the world of the super quick runner, yet they can be fun and bring on your speed. The trick is getting your pacing right, understanding how much recovery you need and for many where to start. This is geared towards those looking for an introduction to speed and pace work.
Saturday 20th 10:00am – Coached Session with WoodRun Developing Running Technique- part 2
This session is ideal for adults and juniors alike. How can we improve our running technique and then keep the progress going? This fundamental workshop will cover the key aspects of good running technique and use running drills to help cement the movement pattern. It will be an ideal follow on to Saturdays session (Part I).
Sunday 20th, 11:30am – Coached Session with WoodRun: Running Stability
Running stability is very important for all runners. It helps prevent injury and injury re-occurrence, improves efficiency and speed development. This session will look at how you can introduce this into a session in it’s own right or as part of warm up.
Sunday 20th, 1:00pm – Junior Coached Session
There will be a proper warm up, technique work and then a proper speedy run session followed by a running warm down. Join our junior coaches on this session which is specifically geared towards youngsters (9 years upwards, including early teens). The chances are this session will be split into groups allowing for age and fitness.
Sunday 20th, 2:00pm – Coached Session: Downhill Technique
Discover how to improve your technique to help you to conquer those downhills with ease and safely. Learn how to brake safely and how to run downhill without extending that landing leg and causing yourself harm. More efficient, safer and potentially faster, that’s the aim. This is one of our most popular Running Technique Sessions and is always busy.

For all sessions we will be out for a little over an hour and will run around 3km in total. It’s not about the distance, but it is all about the effort
