The Little BIG Running Weekend will be based from the Woodland Discovery Centre, Sheffield. With the Woodland Coffee Stop serving great coffee, home made cake and sandwiches through out the day.

Little BIGRW 2021Little BIG Running Weekend – 6:30pm Saturday October 23rd 2021

The Black Diamond Head Torch Run. Why not join us from the event centre for a 5 or 10km night time run.  Our experienced and qualified leaders will take you on a figure of eight loop through the woods at an easy social pace. Black diamond will be on hand to lend you a head torch for you to test. If you have never run off road in the dark before, with a headtorch, then this will be perfect for you.

Little BIG Running Weekend Time Table – Sunday October 24th 2021.

Shoe Testing:  Available all day.  Saucony, Dynafit and Scott Running have already confirmed their attendance so that you can try their latest and greatest trail, ultra and off-trail shoes. You are not even expected to return them clean…

Little BIGRW 2021Led Runs:
8:00am.
 21km Black Route, A led run that heads out into the Peak District. A challenge, yet run at a pace to suit everyone. Don’t forget to carry spare kit plus a little food and water.
8:30am. 14km Red Route. A favorite amongst the Accelerate Trail Runners. Easy going trails that take you to the edge of the Peak District. Don’t forget to carry spare kit plus a little food and water.
2:30pm. 5km or 10km A led ‘chill out’ run through the local woods. Options to drop out at half way or join for the second half of this great run.  Often referred to as the ‘Last Person Standing Run’.

 


Little BIGRW 2021Coached Sessions:
8:30am – WoodRun Run Technique
This session is ideal for adults and juniors alike. How can we improve our running technique and then keep the progress going? This fundamental workshop will cover the key aspects of good running technique and use running drills to help cement the movement pattern. It’s also great fun, with Chicken Legs and Grumpy Elephants.
9am – WoodRun Uphill Technique
Discover how to improve your technique to help you to conquer those hills with ease – well OK we shall all do our best on that one! The truth is if we are more efficient in tackling hills with good technique then we will save energy and reduce the risk of muscle soreness. This is one of our most popular Running Technique Sessions and is always busy.
9:30am – Running Past 50
Join some of the regulars from Accelerate’s Running Past 50 group. As you may have gathered from the name it is primarily aimed at those over 50s who are either new to running or returning to running. Your coaches will take you through some of the key essentials that can help our movement and running technique as we get older. So expect plenty of mobility work, running technique and finishing with a short, paced, session.
10:30am – WoodRun Plyometrics
Ideal for all the family, this session will have you hopping with joy. Plyometrics will help with running strength and stability plus give you plenty of ideas to take away that can help your running. It’s also a great deal of fun. Hurdles anyone?
11:30am – Developing Your Speed
Reps and intervals may sound like they belong in the world of the super quick runner, yet they can be fun and bring on your speed. The trick is getting your pacing right, understanding how much recovery you need and for many where to start. This is geared towards those looking for an introduction to speed and pace work
11:30am – Running for Headspace
Many of us live lives filled with stresses and worries that take their toll on our mental health. Exercise has repeatedly been shown to be helpful at reducing these effects, so come for a run and a chat, where we will explore how and why running can be part of your wellness routine and help you enjoy life with a little less stress!
1pm. Running with Poles.
A multi terrain session that will give the opportunity to either fine tune your technique of using poles, or to try them and see if they are for you. Ultra runners have known their benefits for years and using them correctly can make so much difference.
2pm – WoodRun Downhill Technique
Discover how to improve your technique to help you to conquer those downhills with ease and safely. Learn how to brake safely and how to run downhill without extending that landing leg and causing yourself harm. More efficient, safer and potentially faster, that’s the aim. This is one of our most popular Running Technique Sessions and is always busy. Suitable for road or trail runners plus more accustomed to the Fells.

Little BIGRW 2021Family and Junior Run Sessions:
10am – Junior Coached Running Session
There will be a proper warm up, technique work and then a proper speedy run session followed by a running warm down. Join our junior coaches on this session that is specifically geared towards youngsters (9 years upwards, including early teens). The chances are this session will be split into groups allowing for age and fitness.
10:30am – WoodRun Plyometrics
Ideal for all the family, this session will have you hopping with joy. Plyometrics will help with running strength and stability plus give you plenty of ideas to take away that can help your running. It’s also a great deal of fun. Hurdles anyone?
1:00pm – WoodRun The Games We Play
Running games where you get to mix playground favourites with exercises. Rock Paper Scissors with hopping, noughts and crosses with running, connect 4, hula hoops and much more
Teams and individual competitions, if you’re brave enough you can even compete against your own children.

To finish the day, who’s up for the ‘Last Person Standing 10k Run’?
At 2:30pm everyone who hasn’t worn the test shoes out is welcome to join for a run through the woods – the options are 5k and 10k.  Two differing loops centering at ‘base camp’ to drop off and pick up the hardy amongst you.  A great way to chill out and finish the day – or to really make sure those legs don’t work tomorrow.
